It happens to all of us. Before you know it, Monday hits and it’s time to figure out what to wear to work. Again. You hit the snooze button for an extra ten (ok twenty) minutes and won’t have time to get creative in your closet. In just five minutes flat, you need to think of a fun, interesting, and DYNAMIC outfit to wear to impress your superior in the high-level meeting you’re attending and client appointments you have throughout the day.
But how the heck will you come up with an interesting outfit before your first cup of coffee? When you’ve barely had a chance to wake up? When your face is still puffy from sleeping?
Watch the video below to learn one of my FAVORITE ways to outfit my Style Shop Denver clients’ wardrobes when I go to their home for a Closet Shop session. This unexpected way of pairing pieces together will give you a fresh dose of creativity, an outfitting HACK to use again and again in your closet, and a dynamic way to create new outfits with pieces you already own! Watch the video below and don’t forget to comment with ONE new outfit idea you have in YOUR closet. Read More
Hello, friends! I’ve got a treat for you this week on the blog. I’ve partnered with Samantha Tobia, Expert Organizer and Owner of Demessify here in Denver, to ask the most common questions I get from clients about wardrobe organization. I interviewed her to find out what she recommends most frequently for closet organizational supplies, how to best organize small closets, and the challenges she addresses most often with clients who hire her to set up a longterm solution in their wardrobe.
What I love most about Sam is her commitment to meet clients where they are in their wardrobe (and home!). She doesn’t get caught up in the fussy pretty-but-doesn’t-function-well style of organizing (a trap I can easily fall into!) but is more interested in learning about YOU, your lifestyle, and what makes the most sense for maintaining a clutter-free and CALMING space inside your wardrobe. Her primary goal is to set up a space that will function LONG term for your day-in and day-out needs, rather than simply design a nice area for storing your clothing.
Without further ado, meet Sam!! She’s SUCH a gem, and I hope you’ll enjoy learning from her as much as I have. If reading this blog sparks any interest in speaking with her further, make sure to navigate to THIS page for a direct link to get in touch with her! Read More

Well never fear, my friend, you’ve come to the right place! In this video, I’ll show you five different ways to style your ankle booties, including the MOST flattering style in an ankle boot! So many of my Style Shop Denver clients LOVE the idea of an ankle pant, but they have no idea what shoes to wear to pull off this style in a pant. It’s easier to dismiss the style for a tried-and-true full-length pant instead, but if you’ve followed the Style Shop blog for any length of time, you know just how often I recommend ankle pants to my personal styling clients! Watch the video below as part of my “Simplify Your Style” video blog series to learn what FIVE shoe styles you can wear with an ankle pant for all 4 seasons out of the year. Whether it's a heel or flat, you'll have several ideas for shoes to keep you comfortable no matter the season! Read More
The night I found out I was pregnant was the same night I dressed up as Sandra Dee for a friend’s Halloween party. I had absolutely no suspicion except for some tenderness in my chest I’d felt for several days in a row the week prior. When we got home from the party, Nick crashed on the bed and I grabbed a pregnancy test. What? Positive, really?? I wasn’t sure what to think. It was after midnight and I was preoccupied with thoughts of work while in the middle of a big launch for my online style course. I laid awake for a few minutes in bed but soon fell asleep.
The next day it started to sink in… Read More
Many of my Style Shop Denver clients are intimidated by the ankle pant trend because it reminds them of their high water pants from years past, and they’d rather be caught DEAD than try to pull off that look again if it’s totally not a thing. I’ve worked with MORE clients to transition from bootcut slacks to ankle pants for work, and many denim styles are now available in an ankle length only. So what’s the big fuss?? Ankle pants are flattering, functional, AND easier to find in the stores than ever, and it’s important to understand how to pick out the right length in an ankle pant without confusing the length with a capri pant OR full-length pant. Watch the video below to learn how to measure to find the right length in an ankle pant, including the shortest length I recommend AND the longest length I recommend in an ankle style! Read More
One of the BIGGEST misconceptions my personal styling clients believe about their body is they need to hide areas they don't love with oversized clothing. For many women, this includes the tummy area, and I've been overjoyed to watch client after client learn how to accentuate their waistline in a flattering way no MATTER their body type (or whether they have a tummy!). I created a video with FOUR ways to accentuate the waistline, beginning with the popular front-tuck so YOU can utilize this powerful tool in flattering your figure. Below the video, you’ll find a transcript with a number by each section so you can easily navigate to the part of the video you want to refer back to. Read More
It happens every year. The rich holiday colors, luxurious fabrics, gowns covered in sequined embellishment, and sparkling separates hit the stores in all their glory. It couldn’t be more tempting to pick up another big, cozy red sweater, sparkling cocktail dress, or velveteen sheath as you daydream about the stunning entrance you’ll make to your company holiday party or downtown outing with friends.
Then you realize your holiday party lineup consists more of ugly sweater parties, business casual functions, and intimate family get-togethers. Perhaps it doesn’t actually make sense to buy that gorgeous cocktail dress for just one party, so what should you look for instead? Read More
It’s that time of year when layering is a necessity, and for the longest time, I thought vests were so impractical. Why would someone layer with a vest when it only covered half of their upper body?
Now after 6+ years living in Denver as a personal stylist, I’m a firm believer in a stylish OR functional vest as go-to’s in the fall and winter months. I picked up my first puffer vest this past spring, and though it still feels rather sporty for my personal style, it’s an option I love styling.
In this article, I’m sharing 6 ways to style a vest. You’ll find both my olive green cargo vest and navy puffer vest included in the examples below… Read More
I’ve always loved organizing. I geek out when things are in an easy-to-access spot, and even more so when you can find them without digging, unfolding, refolding, unpacking, or moving an entire drawer around. Over the years, I’ve walked into many a closet and discovered a handful of organizing hacks that work for everyone, no matter the closet shape or size. In celebration of my newest in-person service, Closet Organizing (soon to hit the website, but you can book the service now!), I thought I’d share a few of my favorite ways to organize accessories. If you read my previous blog on when to splurge and when to save money on clothing, perhaps you’re realizing it’s time to invest in a few high-quality items that will maintain their shape, color, and construction over time. But how do you tell if a piece of clothing is high-quality? The price isn’t always a determining factor, so it’s a good idea to be equipped with a few other ways to differentiate between a high-quality and low-quality piece of clothing!
Here’s 9 ways to tell if a piece of clothing is high-quality… Read More
When I was a young girl, I remember going to our nearby department store, Mervyn’s, and feeling like everything was so fancy. I’d wander around the girl’s department and dream about wearing the embellished, glittery tees and dresses covered in flowers. It was a special occasion when we were allowed to purchase something, and I often wondered what it would feel like to wear such pretty things every day.
Fast forward to today, and I’ll take Style Shop Denver clients to Target, Nordstrom, and every store in between to accommodate their budget and lifestyle. I have a passion for working with women that can’t afford the priciest pieces of clothing, perhaps because I didn’t grow up wearing name brands myself.
I often get asked what I recommend for clothing when it comes to quality… Read More
You’ve heard it before. The must-have pieces any working woman should own. The black pencil skirt. White button down. Bootcut slacks. Black heel. While there’s nothing wrong with those items and they may very well serve a purpose (or multiple purposes) in your wardrobe, I don’t find myself recommending these particular items most frequently to Style Shop Denver clients.
Our world is changing and, especially in Denver, things are getting more casual. Business casual no longer necessitates structured blazers, full-length slacks, and tucked-in blouses. There’s more freedom than ever before to express oneself in the clothing worn at work.
So what’s the new normal for clothing in the workplace? What pieces will go farther and work harder in your wardrobe? Read on for 5 of the most versatile pieces I’ve discovered while styling clients who work in a business casual environment. Read More
I had a breakthrough this past fall. I found my first high-rise jean, and it was unlike anything I’ve experienced. I was so excited about my discovery that I appointed myself as the unofficial high-waisted jean spokesperson. I’d bring it up to clients only to hear, “you mean mom jeans?”
I convinced a few to at least TRY a high-waisted jean and soon discovered the many perks to wearing a high-waist style in a pant. You see, up until this point, I had assumed a high-waisted jean wasn’t flattering on my body type. And technically, it isn’t. But with the right fit, it can do wonders. Curious? Read on for my TEN reasons to try a high-waisted jean! Read More
Do you work from home or stay at home with your kids? If so, you’ve probably noticed how easy it is to wear PJ’s from noon to night and feel like you’re #winning at life. Gone are the days of stiff, structured suit separates and itchy sweaters. Yoga pants, workout wear, and oversized sweaters are your new uniform.
I’ve been there. When I transitioned to running my business full-time last November, I was curious to discover how I’d feel wearing around-the-house clothing for work. I was scared I’d fall in love with leggings and oversized sweaters and feel shameful for loving them so much as a stylist.
And then it happened... Read More
This is part two of my spring cleaning series on a capsule wardrobe. If you missed the first part of the series, check it out here! In part one, I define a capsule wardrobe and share a behind-the-scenes look at the pieces I have in my personal wardrobe.
For part two of the series, I'd like to talk about the WHY behind a capsule wardrobe. Many of my Style Shop Denver clients face an overwhelming task when they walk into a wardrobe stuffed with clothing. Physical clutter equals mental clutter, and a big wardrobe may prevent you from seeing new outfit options. It's likely you’ll reach for the same things you always wear when you have a large wardrobe, even though you have more things hanging in your closet!
To my own surprise, when I perform an outfitting session for a Style Shop Denver client... Read More
I’ve never been one for trends. If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you’ve probably noticed I don’t post many articles on the latest trends, colors, or runway fads. If fact, I’m probably the last person to try most trends. I was the last person to download Instagram out of all my friends. The last person to get on board with distressed denim. The last person, it seems, to try most things categorized as latest and greatest.
It’s been no different with the capsule wardrobe and minimalistic movement. In the past, the term “capsule wardrobe” has triggered an inward eye roll, and for several years, I insisted on using the term “wardrobe clustering” as my preferred terminology for mixing and matching items inside a closet.
But in the usual Sandi way, I’ve finally come around to the concept of a capsule wardrobe... Read More
I’ve never been a “must-have” kind of girl when it comes to my blog and the way I approach a client’s closet, but after two tropical trips within the last year, I’ve discovered 5 clothing items I truly believe every person should have with them when traveling to a tropical destination. I first visited Mexico on a cruise during my honeymoon but didn’t travel anywhere tropical until last May when Nick and I celebrated our 5-year anniversary in Jamaica (check out the blog I wrote titled “My Visit to the Dermatologist and Why I Left Fuming" for a story from our trip!).
Then just 9 months later, we had the pleasure of traveling to Puerto Vallarta with Nick’s family to celebrate his mother’s 60th birthday and his brother’s 30 birthday! I was so excited to have an excuse to wear the same outfits from our trip last May, and after packing the same items twice, I came to realize which pieces were truly essential.
Here are the 5 clothing items I recommend for any female traveling to a tropical destination... Read More
I have never before experienced such difficulty getting rid of things. I’m the efficient get-rid-of-it-now type, and my wardrobe is proof. I have two neatly hung areas of my closet and can fit my entire spring/summer and fall/winter wardrobe on one side. I take my compulsive decluttering down a notch with clients, but this time was different.
Marie had an immaculate wardrobe with pieces she’s owned for years. She was fully prepared to dramatically pair down her closet and even asked that I show her some “tough love” during our Closet Cleaning. As a Denver personal stylist, my normal process of removing clothing from a closet and placing an item in the “donate” or “sell” pile wasn’t cutting it. I worked my way through her wardrobe and discovered the majority of Marie’s pieces fit the criteria of flattering, fitting of Marie’s style, and in good repair.
I wasn't sure what to do next. I recommended we wait until our Shopping Session to see what new pieces could replace the styles currently hanging in her closet. She was tired of many of the items and wanted a fresh look! When I came back for the final Closet Shop outfitting session, we STILL had too many pieces to work with, and I realized our problem was due to Marie’s careful care of her wardrobe.
I HAD to ask Marie for her trade secrets and was so excited when she agreed to share her know-how with the Denver Style Shop community! Much of her knowledge comes from her father who owns a dry cleaning business, and you may be surprised at some of her strategies. Read More
We all do it. Every year when the calendar turns back to 1/1, we determine to take full advantage of the fresh beginning a New Year brings. We set out to fulfill our bucket lists, spend more time with our loved ones, beef up our savings, and get in shape. For some of us, it may look like a continuation of the same routine we began last year, and for others, creating brand new habits we hope will stick. One thing is certain - we all have goals when it comes to a healthier lifestyle!
I’ve been on an interesting health journey over the last few years. I spent time in dance and theatre in college and never had a problem moving and staying active. When I got married and moved to Colorado in the summer of 2012, I began a stay-at-home position as a Virtual Wardrobe Consultant. All of a sudden, an active lifestyle wasn’t part of my day-to-day and I had to look for ways to evade turning into a couch balloon. I started attending Zumba and Barre classes at a gym down the street.
Fast forward to the beginning of 2018, and I’m on a strict diet and workout plan for the month of January... Read More
