8 Easy Tips for Looking Effortlessly Pulled-Together

Ever since I gave birth to my baby boy, it’s felt quite a bit harder to look pulled-together from day to day. There just isn’t quite as much time to spend showering, blow-drying my hair, applying makeup, and putting a flattering outfit together. For the first few months of my son’s life, I felt pretty accomplished leaving the house in something other than pj’s. But now that several months have passed, I’ve noticed what a difference a small thing can do to help me feel pulled-together!

Check out these 8 easy tips for simple ways YOU can look effortlessly pulled together when time isn’t on your side:

1. Add fun accessories to your basic pieces.

I’ve been living in basics the last 6+ months, and the #1 way I keep my look fresh is by adding a fun accessory. As pictured above, a go-to outfit for me is a front-tucked top with a high-waisted jean and patterned skinny belt (or any skinny belt with a fun color or texture!). Another accessory I love to add is a neck scarf. You may decide a head scarf or bold earring is an easy go-to for you!

2. Apply lipstick.

This is one of my favorite tricks! Even with very minimal makeup, wearing lipstick makes me look like I tried waaaaay harder than I actually did. Plus, how fun is it to add a pop of color when wearing basics or throwing on a hat?

3. Wear extra blush.

This trick began when I was pregnant. I can’t tell you how many people told me I was glowing when I was simply wearing a little extra blush! It’s worked especially well when I want to keep the rest of my makeup clean and simple. A little extra blush adds color and highlights my often tired new mama face. ;) I’ve loved the way this go-to pink palette looks year-round!

4. Front-tuck like crazy.

If you’ve followed this blog for any time, you’ve heard me talk about front-tucking a LOT. It really does do wonders, especially with a high-waisted pant that pulls in all the post-baby fluff around the tummy. Front-tucking gives shape to your body, particularly when you’re wearing loose-fitting pieces. Not sure how to pull it off? Check out my video on how to front-tuck HERE.

5. Avoid wearing only baggy pieces.

This tip is especially helpful if you’re currently feeling frumpy in the majority of your pieces. When you pair a baggy piece with a baggy piece, you lose your shape and look bigger than you actually are. A quick fix? A FRONT-TUCK! And if not a front-tuck, it’s best to wear one fitted piece with one baggy piece to avoid losing yourself in all baggy clothes.

6.  Use the 1 out of 3 rule.

The one out of three rule simply means you’re aiming to either 1) do your hair 2) apply makeup or 3) put together a flattering outfit. For example, the above picture shows me wearing a hat, no makeup, and a basic tee, jean, and colored coat. I’m wearing a flattering outfit but didn’t put as much effort into my hair or makeup. Before I gave birth to my son, I aimed to do two of the three categories, but recently, I’ve found doing one of the three categories helps me feel pulled-together from day to day.

7.  Wear a hat.

If you don’t have one or two go-to hats, you need one pronto! Along with mixing a hat in with your basic pieces, a hat does wonders for greasy hair days, no makeup days, and all the other disheveled days in between. I can’t tell you how many times my grey baseball cap or floppy brown hat saved the day when I needed to look somewhat pulled-together while running errands or meeting up with a friend!

8. Go with sneakers rather than tennis shoes.

A sneaker gives an effortless sporty casual vibe, while a tennis shoe can grunge down an outfit quite a bit. A sneaker often provides all the same comfort as a tennis shoe! The fun options for sneakers are endless, so go ahead and grab a style in a fun pattern, color, or texture and jazz up any outfit. What better way to add personality to your basic pieces?
