How to Find the Right Length in an Ankle Pant

Many of my Style Shop Denver clients are intimidated by the ankle pant trend because it reminds them of their high water pants from years past, and they’d rather be caught DEAD than try to pull off that look again if it’s totally not a thing. I’ve worked with MORE clients to transition from bootcut slacks to ankle pants for work, and many denim styles are now available in an ankle length only. So what’s the big fuss?? Ankle pants are flattering, functional, AND easier to find in the stores than ever, and it’s important to understand how to pick out the right length in an ankle pant without confusing the length with a capri pant OR full-length pant. Watch the video below as part of my “Simplify Your Style” video blog series to learn how to measure to find the right length in an ankle pant, including the shortest length I recommend AND the longest length I recommend in an ankle style!

[00:03] Hello and WELCOME to this video blog series, "Simplify Your Style," where I teach you super straightforward ways to create a flattering and functional wardrobe as your virtual stylist. I'm Sandi Mele, and today we're talking about how to find the right length in an ankle pant. There's three lengths I'm going to show you today. The first is the shortest length I recommend in an ankle pant. The second is a medium length, which I believe is the most versatile for an ankle pant. And the third is the longest I recommend in an ankle pant.

[00:36] Right now I have on the shorter length.

[00:44] This short length, which is the shortest I recommend in an ankle pant, is about three inches above the middle of the ankle bone. So when I measured, I measured from the middle of the ankle bone up, and this short length was about three inches above the middle of my ankle bone.

[00:59] Now I'll go ahead and show you the medium length. This medium length, when measured from the middle of my ankle bone, is about an inch and a half above the middle of the ankle bone. I've found this to be the most versatile length in an ankle pant as I can wear different booties, including a bootie that sits high on the ankle and a bootie that sits lower on the ankle. I can wear flats really easily with this length, and it keeps the length in my leg. This is the medium length, and like I said, it measures about an inch and a half above the middle of my ankle bone. Next, I'll show you the longer length!

[01:42] Okay friends, so I'm back with the longer length in an ankle pant! This pant hits at the very bottom of my ankle bone, so it sits right where the ankle bone ends. The reason I would avoid going any longer than this for an ankle length is because people will start wondering if the pant was once a full-length style and shrunk. It begins to look like an awkward cross between an ankle pant and a full-length pant! The longest I recommend in an ankle length is a style that hits at the bottom of the ankle bone. Feel free to play with lengths in between these three lengths - no shorter than three inches above the middle of the ankle bone and no longer than the bottom of the ankle bone.

[02:31] I get this question a lot, so I wanted to give you a very specific way of shopping for an ankle pant without the pant looking like a capri or sitting in between a full-length style and an ankle length style!

[02:45] I hope this video was helpful, and I'll see you in the next video!
