5 Things You Never Knew About a Denver Personal Stylist

Wardrobe consulting. What in the world is wardrobe consulting?

Personal styling. What the heck does a personal stylist do?

Whenever I introduce myself as a Denver wardrobe consultant or Denver image consultant, I always get the same follow-up question. “Sssoooo, what exactly does that mean?” I’ve come to expect it every time I talk about The Style Shop by Sandi Mele, and I’ve gotten rather good at a response. “A wardrobe consultant, image consultant, or personal stylist provides closet cleanings and shopping sessions. I find flattering clothing for a client based on her body type and personality. I also shop for women who hate shopping.”

Most people have never heard of this before. And I don’t blame them. I didn’t know personal styling existed until I met a personal shopper while working retail in college. I couldn’t believe someone could shop for a living!

Because image consulting can look dramatically different between every styling business, I thought I’d explain what sets The Style Shop by Sandi Mele apart in preparation for my website launch coming August 15th (we’re down to exactly FIFTEEN days before going live!).

Here’s 5 things you never knew about a Denver personal stylist, specifically MY styling business, The Style Shop by Sandi Mele:

#1: You don’t have to buy designer clothing to hire a personal stylist.

In fact, I have YET to work with a client who purchases designer clothing. The closest I’ve come to selecting designer brands for a client was while shopping at Nordstrom Rack, and I’m pretty sure that doesn’t count…

My niche as a Denver image consultant includes shopping at everyday stores like Macy's, The Loft, JCPenney, and even Colorado outlet stores.

#2: You don’t have to purchase new clothing to hire a personal stylist.

One of my favorite services to provide is called a “closet shop.” This is where I come over and take a look at a client’s closet, mixing and matching pieces he or she already owns. On average, a client will end up with a minimum of 25 outfits, and depending on the size of the closet, up to 50 or more. A client can also purchase a physical lookbook of all these outfits for only $75.

#3: You don’t have to shop all day when working with a personal stylist.

Most of my personal shopping sessions take about 2 hours. This is for a client looking for 10-15 pieces of clothing she can mix and match in a variety of ways. I charge only $49 for my time pre-shopping, so the client gets a great deal. All he or she has to do is show up to a dressing room full of pre-assembled outfits and try everything on!

I even had a client I work with seasonally leave a store with 10 new pieces in just 30 minutes of shopping (of course this isn’t typical, but it shows how efficient it can be to hire a Denver personal stylist when working with her regularly!).

#4: A personal stylist has to put thought into her own wardrobe, too.

I know exactly what you go through every morning when picking out an outfit for the day. I've been there. Many times it takes a fresh pair of eyes to see new outfits in a wardrobe a client walks into every morning.

I used to think personal stylists had an innate ability to throw things together without thinking about it at all. I’m pretty sure “I just threw this on” has never once escaped my mouth.

I would argue the very reason a personal stylist begins a business in wardrobe consulting is due to the realization that it takes thought and intentionality to assemble a functional and flattering wardrobe. Not to mention a wardrobe that represents a person’s personality and style.

#5: Personal styling isn’t just for the rich and famous.

Though there are many Denver personal stylists who charge $100/hour for personal styling and consulting services, my passion is to help women just like myself enjoy a wardrobe that represents who they are. I want you to have FUN with your wardrobe and style, so I build my pricing with affordability in mind and charge $75/hour.

In the words of one of my clients, “I never considered having a wardrobe consultant. It sounded like something only movie stars or the ultra rich could afford, but I was pleased to find out that this was not the case at all. Sandi made it possible for an average gal like me to have her very own Denver personal stylist!”

Perhaps now you have a better idea of what wardrobe consulting is all about. Thank you for allowing me to share what makes The Style Shop by Sandi Mele unique!
